  • Navigating Perimenopause, Menopause & beyond

We listen; We Acknowledge; We share knowledge; We plan and help build confidence in understanding your own body.

    Our 6-week course

It's a fierce world out there; Relationships, business, family, social circles, politics, healthcare. Women are often extremely good at masking a HUGE amount in order to keep going, be accepted and thrive.

I'm speaking my mind openly and you may or may not agree, but women are F***ing amazing and so are our bodies!!

I am by NO MEANS discrediting men- they are too, in their own right- amazing.

But I am coming at this from a woman's physiological, functional perspective. A topic that is all too often brushed aside, and misdiagnosed as 'depression', 'too sensitive', 'you're going crazy'. I'm sure you could add 100 more words to that, but we understand each other, I hope= HORMONES!

When we think of hormones, a lot of us think: 'Oestrogen', 'Progesterone', 'testosterone' perhaps- they are stereotypically the ones we associate with mood swings, irritation and the changes we experience regularly. BUT there are many other hormones playing their part at the same time that we cannot afford to overlook when we are experiencing the natural hormonal changes throughout life.

Insulin, Thyroid hormones, Cortisol, Adrenaline, Melatonin, Serotonin, Dopamine...

At Jenkins Fitness Ltd, we have specialised in women’s health, fitness, nutrition and hormones. We have first-hand experience, alongside many hours spent learning more about the science and physiology, and it has become our mission to not only share what we’ve learned, but to give you the knowledge and understanding that allows you to become more confident in knowing your own body.

**Whether you are entering perimenopause or further along, we group women together who are in similar places. So please don’t worry — we ensure the information provided is relevant to those in front of us.**

Our aim throughout the 6 weeks is to give you useful knowledge, practical tools and a better understanding of your physiology — so you can learn to work with your body, rather than constantly fighting against it.

    No selling of supplements.

No promises to fix perimenopause or menopause.

Just simple, judgement-free discussion, education and a practical introduction to resistance and weight training that is right for your body. Not forgetting a plan that you can continue moving forward with.

Each 6-week course is tailored to the women in front of us at the time. The fundamentals, evidence-based knowledge and education we share remain the same, but we understand that everyone experiences perimenopause and menopause differently. That’s why we listen first, then tailor the exercise and support to the individual.

We don’t claim to be GPs, Gynaecologists, or therapists; We’re ordinary women who are passionate about supporting other women, sharing what we’ve learned, explaining the science behind hormonal changes, and helping you understand what you can do to strengthen yourself in the process; physically, mentally, nutritionally and through understanding your physiology.

  • So, what actually happens during the 6-week course?

Each week, we have one hour together.

The first half is about talking, questioning and learning.

We’ll break the weeks into different topics, because understanding what is happening inside your body is a pretty good place to start before deciding what you could do about it.

    We’ll look at:

    1. What actually is perimenopause and menopause?

The hormonal landscape, what changes, when it changes, and why it can feel like your body has suddenly started behaving differently.

    2. Muscle, metabolism & the progesterone drop

What happens to your muscle mass, why your metabolism can feel different, and where progesterone fits into the picture.

    3. Bone health, oestrogen loss & future-proofing

Why declining oestrogen matters for your bones, why strength training becomes increasingly important, and what we can actually do about it.

    4. Stress, sleep & how cortisol responds

Why sleep can suddenly become a problem, how stress and cortisol interact, and why “just get more sleep” isn't always particularly helpful advice.

    5. Cardiovascular health & insulin resistance

The changes happening beneath the surface that aren't always obvious, why cardiovascular health becomes increasingly important, and where insulin resistance fits into the bigger picture.

    6. Pelvic floor, brain health & moving beyond menopause

Because there is more to this stage of life than hot flushes. We'll look at pelvic floor health, what's happening with your brain, and how we can continue to look after ourselves beyond menopause.

The order may change as questions are asked and discussions develop — because everything is interlinked, the conversation may naturally take us somewhere else. And that’s okay!

The second half will be your tailored exercise programme.

An introduction to resistance and weight training designed around everyday function, but suited to your body, your ability and where you are right now.

    No bodybuilding.

    No death by cardio.

Just learning how to move, lift and strengthen your body in a way that works for you.

Building the strength and physical capacity that can help you look after your body now and future-proof it for the years ahead.

The topics we talk about in the first half aren't just interesting facts. They give us a better understanding of why strength, movement and looking after your body matter and what you can actually do about it.
